Non-Deposit Beverage Containers

As per the British Columbia Recycling Regulation, there are certain beverage containers that are not included within Schedule 1, meaning they are not subject to a deposit and Container Recycling Fee (CRF).

Non-deposit containers include:

  • Infant Formula
  • Meal replacement, liquid formulated diet or nutritional supplements
  • Concentrates (i.e., frozen, or unfrozen juice concentrates)
  • Liquids that are not meant primarily as ready-to-serve drinks, these include whipping cream, coffee cream, half-and-half, buttermilk
  • Modified or milk-derived products, such as drinkable yogurt, kefir, and similar products

Please ensure that deposits and Container Recycling Fees (CRF) are not charged on exempted products.

Reminder that Protein Drinks are part of the Return-It system. Health Canada “Supplemented” labelled drinks are included in the Return-It system and carry a deposit and CRF. For more information, please read this article.
