Breweries/Distilleries: Non-alcoholic products line
In British Columbia, all ready-to-drink beverage containers are subject to the BC Recycling Regulation - Schedule 1, however there are two stewardship agencies responsible for collection and recycling of those used beverage containers:
BRCCC (Brewers’ Recycled Container Collection Council): Manages the deposit return stewardship program for alcohol in aluminum cans and refillable glass beer bottles.
Encorp Pacific (Canada) / Return-It: Manages the deposit return stewardship program for any ready-to-drink beverage containers produced or imported into BC.
If your brewery/distillery has registered its alcohol aluminum products with BRCCC, please be aware that any non-alcohol beverages you produce or import in aluminum or non-refillable containers, including non-alcohol beer, mocktails and hop water, must also be registered with Encorp / Return-It to ensure compliance with the BC Recycling Regulation.
If you are interested in consolidating your stewardship services into one efficient service provider, please be aware that Encorp can register and manage the BC Recycling Regulation obligations for your alcohol and non-alcohol aluminum products. The Encorp Container Recycling Fee (CRF) for aluminum is $0.00/container for 2026.
For any questions or clarifications on which program you should register your beverage containers with or to appoint Encorp as the steward responsible for collecting your alcohol aluminum containers, please contact brandregistry@returnit.ca.
