Introducing New Container Types in BC
If you are considering bringing in a new container type in BC, especially if it contains multiple materials, please follow the process below. Beverages should not be sold in new containers until the process below has been completed with Encorp to ensure compliance with the BC Recycling Regulation, Schedule 1. The review process will take several weeks, we recommend sending the information below as early as possible and well before any planned release or sale of your beverages in BC.
Information to Send Us
- Send an email to brandregistry@returnit.ca along with a brief description of the material(s) used in the container and attach images so Encorp can complete an initial review.
- If requested by Encorp, provide a sample package for further examination of the container’s components and materials.
- Wait for formal confirmation from Encorp that the specific container can be recycled and accepted within the BC system.
The sale of any beverage in a ready-to-drink container in BC must be registered with Encorp. If sales happen before the beverage container is registered with Encorp, your organization is out of compliance with the BC Recycling Regulation and could be subject to potential fines.
